The Mystery of Melanoma: Emerging Breakthroughs for Targeted Therapy

This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from Advances in the Management of Oncology Patients held in Orlando,Florida on April 6-8, 2011.
Malignant melanoma is well known for its aggressive clinical behavior, its propensity for lethal metastasis and its therapeutic resistance. The treatment of metastatic melanoma is changing rapidly due to the great success in translational research from bench to bedside. Studies to date have focused on the treatment of advanced metastatic disease; however, breakthroughs in the use of targeted therapy hold great promise in the development of personalized therapies for malignant melanoma. This presentation will review recent advances in our understanding of the role of targeted therapies for melanoma.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. Review recent advances in our understanding of the role of targeted therapies for melanoma.
  2. Recognize the aggressive clinical nature of this type of cancer, and the impact of individualized therapy.
