Updated Trends in Oncology Pain Management and Related Fatigue

This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from Advances in the Management of Oncology Patients held in Orlando,Florida on April 6-8, 2011.
Pain from cancer or cancer treatment may be acute or chronic and commonly results in fatigue. It is essential to combat fatigue because it affects how patients live, how well they tolerate cancer therapy and their overall quality of life. A variety of factors are believed to contribute to the cause of cancer-related fatigue, such as the disease itself, the cancer treatment, low blood counts, sleep disruption, stress, poor nutrition, inactivity and medications. This presentation with address the similarities between pain and fatigue and discuss the barriers to the management of pain and fatigue in cancer patients.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. State barriers to the management of pain and fatigue in cancer patients.
  2. Outline pain assessment and pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management strategies of pain.
