Pediatric Intestinal Rehabilitation
This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from Innovations in Solid Organ and Blood/Marrow Transplantation held in Scottsdale, Arizona on March 7-9, 2011.
Intestinal failure occurs when the intestine cannot neither sustain the nutritional needs of an individual nor maintain adequate fluid balance. Intestinal rehabilitation is the science that exhibits the amazing ability of the intestine to adapt to different and unexpected situations. It encompasses pharmacological, dietary and surgical options that can reconstitute the intestine to normal function. Rehabilitation is most successful when undertaken by multidisciplinary teams with a coordinated approach. This presentation will review the multidisciplinary approach in the evaluation and treatment of children with severe feeding disorders.
