Late Medical Effects of Blood/Marrow Transplantation

This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from Innovations in Solid Organ and Blood/Marrow Transplantation held in Scottsdale, Arizona on March 7-9, 2011.
Advances in transplantation over the last four decades have resulted in an increasing number of long-term survivors who may be at risk for developing late infections, noninfectious complications and/or secondary cancers. Awareness of the risk factors and screening recommendations for late complications can lead to their early diagnosis and treatment. This presentation will discuss late effects of blood/marrow transplant and how transplant patients may be at a higher risk for early signs of diabetes and cardiovascular problems, such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. Discuss late effects of blood/marrow transplant and how transplant patients may be at a higher risk for metabolic syndrome, including early signs of diabetes and issues with hypertension, hyperlipidemia and other cardiovascular problems.
