New Directions in Stem Cell Transplantation

This activity focuses on newer advances in the use of stem cell transplant. We will provide a discussion on the use of cord blood, as well as haploidentical transplant. Also included are treatment discussions related to diseases such as chronic myelogenous leukemia, multiple myeloma and some of the autoimmune disorders. This discussion is very timely for case managers working with this patient population.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. List the uses of umbilical cord blood transplants
  2. Describe the pros and cons of haploidentical stem cell transplant
  3. Identify new and emerging treatment options for a variety of cancer diagnoses including CML, multiple myeloma, solid organ tumors, and autoimmune disorders
  4. Discuss the latest advances in stem cell therapy
