This activity will discuss the current status of medical and surgical management of HLHS and its anatomic variants. This session will review the long-term outcomes and complications related to single ventricle physiology, along with new treatment strategies and future directions, including:

• Ventricular assist devices (VADs)
• Staged left ventricle repair (SLVR)
• Cell-based therapy

This activity will also explore the factors that increase the risk of single ventricle patients and will evaluate the role of transplantation.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

1. Identify various forms of single ventricle anatomy
2. Outline current medical and surgical management patterns and considerations in single ventricle patients to identify long-term limitations and complications
3. List negative prognostic risk factors
4. Recognize new treatment strategies and the prospects for the future
