Multiple Myeloma: Should We Transplant or Are New Novel Agents Taking Its Place?

This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from Innovations in Solid Organ and Blood/Marrow Transplantation held in Scottsdale, Arizona on March 7-9, 2011.
The survival of patients with multiple myeloma has significantly increased over the past decade, mainly due to the efficacy of novel agents. Advances in the development of multiple myeloma drugs have had a profound impact on the way the disease is treated. Studies are being conducted to determine whether they may be as effective, or possibly even more effective, than a stem cell transplant. This presentation will describe the best current options for treatment of multiple myeloma.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. Describe the best treatment options for patients with multiple myeloma.
  2. List the factors that are associated with better results on induction therapy.
  3. Compare cancer-specific and survival outcomes between patients with and without a good response to induction therapy for multiple myeloma.
