Pancreatic Cancer: An Exploration of Treatment Options

This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from Advances in the Management of Oncology Patients held in Orlando,Florida on April 6-8, 2011.
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of death among both men and women, comprising 6 percent of all cancer-related deaths. The disease is usually aggressive and notoriously difficult to diagnose in its early stages. The 5-percent survival rate has not improved significantly over the past two decades. This presentation will discuss recent developments in treating pancreatic cancer using newer chemotherapeutic and molecular-targeted agents, as well as outline treatment strategies that could lead to progress in the future.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. Discuss methods for detecting and diagnosing pancreatic cancer
  2. Describe current treatment options for patients with pancreatic cancer, including surgical resection, adjuvant and neoadjuvant treatments, as well as therapy for advanced disease
