Intended Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and case managers who care for oncology patients.

Activity Description
This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from Advances in the Management of Oncology Patients held in Orlando,Florida on April 6-8, 2011.
This activity explores the status of current therapies, emerging treatments, and expected outcomes for pediatric and adult oncology patients. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer remains the second leading cause of death in the United States. Advances in scientific research leading to specific diagnostic criteria continue to provide treatment options that impact post-treatment survival and patients' quality of life. This conference is designed to help health care professionals face the challenges of cancer management.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. Identify current and emerging therapies for pediatric and adult complex cancers.
  2. Discuss updates on screening tools and diagnostic technologies available for early identification and treatment.
  3. Examine the influence of clinical trials in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.
  4. Recognize the emerging connection between obesity and the risk or relapse of cancer.
